As for the eggs, crystal and speckled eggs seem to have a higher rate of special dinosaurs, but they don't guarantee one. As for the 'interesting items' that you can dig up, as far as I know they don't have any value or use yet, apart from of course the 4 golden ones at the top of the screen. I've mostly seen these events happen when the amount of coins is below 3000. I have noticed coin events, such as the VIP's, 'escaped dinosaur' or 'visitor in dinosaur enclosure' events, seem to occur more frequently when your current amount of coins is low (and you don't have any coins left in your ticket booth/hot dog stand etc.). Decorations are, as far as I know, purely decorative. It doesn't upgrade your coin earnings per hour. Upgrading your ticket booth just extends your max idle time with 1 hr per upgrade, so the max amount of coins stocked in your ticket booth. Each popularity point earns you 15 coins/hour. To my knowledge, your income at the ticket booth is decided solely by your popularity points. Just from personal experience, no code cracking here:
